Winning teams do two things:

  • Plan
  • Practice

I am always amazed that marketing and sales teams do neither. Events pop off with no coordination, presentations are given without any practice, and the net result is at worst chaos and at best confused messages to customers, prospects, and stakeholders.

Painting a Vision

A while ago, I was hiking up Grouse Mountain with my friend Bob Garlick. Bob reminded me that great marketing companies sell an incredible vision to their customers. Great sales people then show prospects how they can take the first step to that ultimate vision. It is a strategy that can wipe out your competitors if they do not or can not provide the vision.

Flipboard, iPad, and Customer Experience

Earlier this year, I wrote about my new iPad computer. I continue to really enjoy my iPad. The user experience is fantastic. I have slowly been adding more applications to enhance that experience.

Recently, my friend Ron Seybold from Bites of Apple told me about Flipboard for the iPad. Flipboard takes your Facebook and Twitter feeds and lays them out in a magazine format. For tweets, any URL links are automatically dereferenced and made part of your magazine experience.

Presentation Zen

In my new role as Director of Marketing and Sales for MB Foster Associates Limited, I’ve been reading and writing a lot of presentations. Like many, Microsoft PowerPoint ends up being my tool of choice. I’ve sat through thousands of presentations. Having been bullet pointed near to death, I decided that it was time that my presentations get a boost in style and impact.
