Today’s world offers lots of opportunities to be creative. It is easier than ever to create a blog, post a photo, or write a tweet. In the business world, the companies that are winning are those that innovate. To innovate, you have to lead your people to be creative. To harness the infinite potential of the people that work for you.
Most people are creative every day. They problem solve, communicate, and seemingly create something out of nothing. Yet the notion of being creative somehow strikes fear in the hearts of many.
When you look at a blank page, do you feel fear? Or do you feel the potential to create something? I often feel both. I have days where I look at the blank page or stare at the blank screen and wonder “What I am possibly going to write?”
At the end of the process, I often wonder “Why was that so hard?” Yet the process of climbing the steep hill of getting words written is what fulfils me. At the start of the day I had nothing. At the end of the day I had something that I just created. Whether it is software, ideas, words, or messages, I always come away with a sense of satisfaction.
Are you letting your fear hold you back? More importantly are the people in your organization holding themselves back from innovating and creating the next thing that your business needs? Encourage them to take a chance. The results will surprise you.
