The NIAAA is the American National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Addiction. NIAAA is the leading US organization focused on research around alcoholism, addiction, and recovery.
The NIAAA Alcohol Research Current Reviews has just published their latest research findings on the multiple ways we can recover from alcohol use disorder. I have collected all the articles and links here to make it easy for entrepreneurs and CEOs who are in recovery to find and read.
We start with Recovery From AUD – From the Editors by John F. Kelly and Brett Hagman. In their summary they make the case that recovery from AUD is becoming normalized and is helping to reduce “stigma, discrimination, and general pessimism that so often surround alcohol misuse and AUD.”
When I first got sober, I was averse to the whole idea that I could be an “alcoholic.” That I had a problem with my drinking. I also had negative thoughts about 12-step recovery, when in truth I knew nothing about it. I believe anything that reduces stigma and increases our awareness of alcoholism and addiction is a great thing for society as a whole, especially for those of us who suffer from the disease.
