FIFTEEN YEARS SOBER
Today I am 15 years sober. That’s 5,478 days in row without a drink. The biggest achievement of my life. An achievement I must achieve every single day if I am to stay sober.
I took my 15-year cake this morning at the Alano Club of Puerto Vallarta 9:00 am meeting. I get to stay sober, because other people meet and hold space for me, sharing their experience, strength, and hope. It is by their example that I have learned to live one day at a time without having to take a drink to cope with life.
The last year has been amazing. The birth of our second Grandchild—the beautiful Alanna. Two fantastic trips with Karalee. Important work facilitating and coaching with clients.
I also got to be present, by invitation of my Ridley family, with my birth mother Terry Ridley as she passed away. While I am sad that she held firm to her statement to me “I want nothing to do with you.” I am blessed that all the family around her have welcomed me. I’m sad and uplifted at the same time.
If you struggle with alcoholism or addiction, know that there is a solution. There is hope. You are beholden to a disease more powerful than any human. What I’ve learned is that you cannot overcome alcoholism or addiction alone.
For entrepreneurs and dreamers of all kinds, my 15 years show the power of moving towards our goal one day at a time. If we get up every day and take one more step towards our vision, amazing things will happen. I showed up and kept doing the work suggested to me. The gift is that I have been granted a life in sobriety beyond my wildest dreams.
May all your dreams come true.
